The SuperCool Slide Rule was designed by Bryan Knowlton. Bryan held licenses in two states for heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing and general contracting. He has been self-employed for over 25 years and taught heating, air conditioning and electrical at New Mexico State University-Carlsbad.

During his years as an educator, Bryan created wallet sized reference cards for his students with topics covered in class. Years later while obtaining his pilot's license, Bryan was intrigued by a slide rule used in aviation to easily calculate otherwise lengthy speed, time, distance and fuel flow computations. Bryan decided to create a slide rule that would perform all of the computations that are required by HVAC/R professional and provide the formulas, conversions and references the technician needs. All of this information needed to be included on ONE tool, just like the one used by pilots.
